Another shooting has occurred before we could even recover from the last shooting. This time it took place in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California. The gunman, Ian D. Long, a Marine Corps veteran killed 12 people at the Borderline Bar and Grill. The night this occurred was disgusting as the only thing on people's mind was not the victims but rather the ethnicity of the shooter. Since Long had a beard, it was initially believed the shooter was of middle-eastern descent and it was disturbing seeing the glee of many republican pundits who were believed to be proven right of their fears of people of brown skin. Those tweets and posts were then deleted once the shooter was shown to be a white male who was formerly in the Marines. As if that was ever the issue that was important when the lives of a dozen innocent people were lost in that kind of fashion. Gun control continues to be a reoccurring issue in our country as the amount of shootings in our country seems to rise every year. Thousand Oaks was one of the safest cities in the country, showing that these types of things can happen anywhere. I personally do not fear going outside in public places but I can see how others might be hesitant to go anywhere as places of all different types have been the subject of shootings over the last few years. I no longer have words to describe what is happening in our country but I hope that we can use our compassion and our common sense to create a country and a world where things like this never happen and if they do they are few and far between. It is tough that our country is being ran by gun lovers who show no signs of trying to improve the problem.
