Roger Ancona JOUR 4250 October 10th, 2018 Brett Kavanaugh has been confirmed as the next Supreme Court Justice following allegations against him for sexual harassment.  Dr. Christine Blasey Ford came forward with her allegations against Kavanaugh publicly and although she attested that Kavanaugh abused her when both were in high school, he was still given the vote of confidence by the majority of the senate.  Sexual abuse and sexual harassment have impacted countless women all over the world and Dr. Ford is no different.  Her bravery to come forward was inspiring to many, however many people attacked her and called into question her character and ethics instead of seeing her as the victim of a heinous crime.  These types of things are the reason why many women do not come forward with many of the awful things that have happened to them, and it is disappointing to see how this could still happen in 2018.  It was especially disgusting to see other women come...

Roger Ancona JOUR 4250 October 5th, 2018 In connection to one of my first blog posts, former San Francisco 49er Eric Reid has been signed by the Carolina Panthers.  This is significant as Reid was the first player to kneel alongside his former teammate Colin Kaepernick during the national anthem.  Reid, like Kaepernick, had alleged that NFL owners were colluding to try and keep him out of the league.  Reid had established himself as one of the premier safeties in the league and it was a joke that it took him this long to find a place to play as he would have been a valued commodity had it not been for the political views of the vast majority of NFL owners.  It is extremely interesting to see what topics NFL owners take issue with as every single year players with domestic violence charges get signed without problem but players with strong moral stances get punished.  Cowboys owner Jerry Jones tried to avoid any questions about former defensive end Greg Har...

Roger Ancona JOUR 4250 September 17th, 2018 One of the saddest and most disgusting local news stories that has broken in recent memory is the tragic murder of Botham Jean in his own apartment by a police officer.  Another case of unarmed African American man being murdered by a white police officer, however this was not after some petty crime or during a traffic violation, this was a man inside of his own home and an officer so "unaware" of her surroundings that she felt it was appropriate to murder another person in cold blood.  This story went from local to national news instantly and one of the worst parts about the entire ordeal is that on the day of the man's funeral, news organizations found it acceptable to release news that marijuana was found in his apartment.  This kind of immoral and irresponsible journalism is sickening as it had nothing to do with the story at hand.  Jean was the victim in this case and people in newsrooms across the state felt it ...

Roger Ancona JOUR 4250 September 11th, 2018 Tennis superstar Serena Williams has controversially lost the US Open due to a point penalization followed by a game penalization by umpire Carlos Ramos due to what she felt was unfair and sexist treatment.  Tennis has been a sport marred by sexism over the years and nobody has felt the brunt of this more than Serena Williams.  As an African American woman from Compton, California with a fiery demeanor, Williams does not fit the mold of what many believe a female tennis player should be.  Earlier this year Williams was belittled and also banned from wearing a bodysuit created by Nike to help her with blood clots because some higher ups in the tennis community thought it was too revealing.  However these same tennis officials have allowed other women in the sport to wear much more revealing outfits that had nowhere near the health and performance benefits that the bodysuit had for Williams.  Williams has cemented ...

Roger Ancona JOUR 4250 September 15th, 2018 Colin Kaepernick has been tapped to be the main face of Nike's 30th anniversary "Just Do It" campaign.  This is significant as Kaepernick has been entrenched in a legal battle against the NFL as he believes he is wrongfully being blackballed by the league and its owners since he decided to kneel for the national anthem before games and Nike just so happens to be the apparel provider for the NFL and all of its teams.  This is an issue that has divided people across the country as many have willfully been ignorant and have misrepresented what Kaepernick is protesting.  Those who choose to believe Kaepernick is simply attempting to disrespect the country are doing so with malicious intent and many NFL owners sadly fall into this category.  Kaepernick has vehemently stated that he is protesting inequality and police brutality and because of his views has given Nike a perfect figure for their company as the tagline "Belie...
